Virginia State Annual Meeting Report

May 2012
Mr Al Watlet brought up the state website tournaments pages still showing us as HRBA and HWBA. Mr. Paxton said that is because Winlabs does not recognize the VPUSBC in the state database. Jim Zebahazy will investigate to find the problem.

Jim Zebahzy discussed the new USBC member ship cards, awards program and why the USBC contunes to go back to Reno for the National Championship Tournaments.

State Elections:
Incumbent State President Judy Edwards was defeated in her bid for re-election. Mike Eckles ( Roanoke ) was nominated from the floor and elected President of the VA State USBC for a three year term.

Directors elected were Billy Paxton ( Roanoke ), Ernie Driver (Tidewater) and Tommy Woolridge ( Lynchburg ).

Mike Eckles and Dave Anderson were elected as delegates with Anne Ray (VPUSBC) and Tom Dale (Nations Capitol) as alternates. It was definitely an interesting meeting.

The state tournaments were announced

• 2013 State Mixed NRV Superbowl Christiansburg VA(Feb 2013)
• 2013 State Womens Championship Danville/South Boston VA

Virginia Peninsula USBC Open Meeting Report

April 2012
The Open Meeting at Tabb Library on April 14th was a little disappointing as attendance was way down from the previous years meeting.

President Binks discussed Bowlers Appreciation Day and Bowlers Night Out. Consensus was that changes have to be made. Attendance at BAD was poor.

Membership of the VPUSBC stands at 4866 at the time of the meeting (including 428 youth bowlers). Makeup of the association shows 43% of adult bowlers are women, 57% are men, 30% are seniors 55 and older and 8% are youth. These 4866 bowlers have earned 7883 USBC awards to date. There will three new local awards this fall, the 7-10 patch, the Big 4 patch and a clean sweep ( no opens) patch.

Written reports were distributed for all standing committees.

Rules chairman Betty Watlet discussed the mandatory bylaw changes from USBC that changed the Youth Committee from an elected committee to a standing committee appointed by the president. She also presented a bylaw proposal that requires all board member s to be RVP qualified for their term on the board, which passed.

A proposed budget for 2012-13 was presented for information. This has to be reviewed by the Finance Committee and brought to the board.

Bill Binks was elected to a two year term as President and Robert Slaughter was elected to a two year term as 2nd Vice-President, both unanimously. Three year directors elected were Tim White, Margaret Brame, Anne Ray and Charlene Osborne . Elected to two year director was Russell Anderson and Rob Johnson was re-elected as youth director.

Delegates and alternates for state and National meetings were also elected.

• USBC changing direction to try to generate income through lifelong bowlers

It’s no secret the number of league bowlers has dropped every year for more than three decades. It’s also well-known the many ways the United States Bowling Congress and its predecessors have attempted to change that.

Adding more awards, increasing youth scholarships, creating national promotions and asking people to join for the good of the sport have done nothing to stop the drop from nine million to two million registered league bowlers since 1980. Click Here

• Association Award News

12/7/2011 From Association Manager Mr Al Watlet

Michael J. Moore rolled 300/800 last Wednesday night (Nov 30th) at York , then turned around and rolled 300/800 in the Sunday morning league at York . He had never rolled a 300 or 800 before in his life and then had two of each in the same week.

Association Awards Info – From 8/1/11 to 12/3/11, total awards worked by our association stands at 4335 which includes 644 youth awards. Last year for this same time frame, we worked 6544 total awards including the youth. The change in catagories seems to cut down on the number awarded.

11 in a row – 33 rolled
Includes two youth, Benjamin Cash and Nolan Judkins, both with a 290 game.
300 Games todate – 39

Marty Holland left message on the Association answering machine (12/7). Henry Rankin in the Camp Peary League at Williamsburg rolled two 300 games and had a series of 845 for the night.
