The 2012 Bowler Nite Out Awards Dinner was held at Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina located in Downtown Hampton on March 31st at 6:30 PM with a Social & Cocktails followed by Dinner & Awards
, Mr. Harry O’Neale, former pro bowler and Director of the Southern Region PBA was the guest speaker.
HALL OF FAME
Mr. Harry K. Butts was inducted into the Hall of Fame posthumously in the meritorious service category , having passed away in October, 2011.
He began bowling on the Peninsula in 1960, joined the Air Force and returned to bowling in 1964. He coached the next 30 plus years at Circle Lanes (Sparetimes) until his health stopped him. He was a director on the HRBA, Vice-President of the HRBA, Past President of Peninsula Junior Bowling Association and Past President of the Virginia State Junior Bowling Association. He and Jim Bohlken started the HRBA Youth Scholarship Program in the late 70’s and also helped start the Virginia State Scholarship Program. When his health issues kept him from bowling, he became active in the American Legion, moving up to Post Commander and Virginia State Commander and Honorary Life Member.
Accepting the award for his father was son Michael Butts.
Mr. Troy D. (T.J.) McKinney was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in the bowling performance category. T.J. has been bowling for 22 years, making the All-Star Team 18 times. He has bowled 16 – 300 games and 10-800 series just in this association. He also had a couple of 300’s bowling in the Southern Regional PBA events. He won many titles in the local association tournaments such as scratch team 3 times, scratch singles in 1995, scratch doubles in 2003 and scratch all-events in 2000. He was also named Hampton Roads Bowler of the Year in 2009. He maintains true sportsmanship and fellowship while bowling in league or tournament play.
Director of the Year
Donna Haynes was presented as the Director of the year by President Bill Binks.
The first place scholarship winner was Bryant Sweet , who attends Woodside High School in Newport News
The second place scholarship winner was Victoria White , who attends Tabb High School in Yorktown .
Both scholarship winners and their parents were in attendance.
